This follows quickly on the heels of the Matrix Foundation giving up on developing and saying everyone should use the software developed by Riot.im/Element.io corporation.
What are Matrix Foundation for now then? They say:

But do they have any reason to be neutral now? Since some of the "legal directors of the non-profit Foundation" are co-founders of New Vector. There can be a conflict of interest.
