Abingdon is such a weird little place, having alternated for a few thousand years between “important place” and “shit hole”. Currently some amazing old ruins, a very impressive 17th century townhall, surrounded by some truly dreary suburbs and some properly urban hell shopping malls. Wouldn’t surprise me if it somehow managed to outlive nearby Oxford.

I lived there from the early aughts until 2012.

It's where Sophos is headquartered, too.

I was there from the mid seventies until the early nineties. It was quite a bit smaller when we moved in. The main problem now seems to be the traffic. I'm not sure what you could do about it other than bulldoze the centre.
The Thames in that area is extremely beautiful (having rowed on that stretch and a few neighbouring ones.)
