Not even, the car would be still be stolen. In any case it could help police make their work easier.

The big problem, judging from the neighborhood listserv, is theft not of but from automobiles: contractors, cleaning crews, lawn crews have their stuff stolen. The police don't seem to focus on this until people in the neighborhood bother their council member.
