Ask HN: Is GPTs a play on general purpose technology?

I just found out today that GPT can also refer to this :

Makes me even more convinced that it is a terrible name for a great product. Surely the team would have known about the alternative reference. Did they somehow think it was a good idea to use GPTS as a product name or were they just lazy?
