Not sure how this only got 7 points and no comments - this is an amazing guide and tutorial.

I really like how you call out that you're doing some hackery with pseudo-elements for clarity in the visuals, and then show us the code if we want to! I wish more thing were transparent like this

Very useful resource. I've used grid for a little while, but never built a strong intuition for the logic. I mostly just progressed through trial and error. This helped rectify that.

Would love to see a part 2 focusing on subgrid and the "rest of the iceberg".
