And the fulcrum, as with Trump in 2016 and Johnson in 2019, was immigration. It's the biggest populist wedge on the planet.
I expected more from humans at this stage.

We should be better than that.

I guess the lesson is clear - the most populist wins, be it right-wing or left-wing. Time to update the activism playbook.

When the right-wing VVD won previous elections, they were not labeled far right, that niche was already taken up by the PVV further right. (Which is what "far right" means: more extremely right-wing than other right-wing politicians.)
