Currently, UK companies can file their accounts using the Companies House website. That's going away - all companies will have to use third-party software (IIUIC). This is an incredible retrograde step.
Why is it a problem if the API is published and works, eg there could be open source solutions? I'm in favour of better metadata etc.

(And are tiny and dormant companies going to need to do this?)

The specs are sort of published. There is this:

But none of those documents contain a complete specification. I followed various links, but couldn't find the actual schema for filing accounts. Some links look promising, but are dead.

Perhaps there could be open source solutions, but as far as i know, there aren't. Nothing on this list looks open source:

Thanks for that, though at least there are explicitly free options in some of those cases. Not 'free' enough for all definitions.
