I live in a small town in Washington and this change recently took place. Until this article I had no idea it was part of a broader shift.
For our local post office it hasn’t had an impact on the mail itself, but they’re a lot busier handling incoming packages. One key difference with our community vs a lot of others though is we do not have any local mail delivery. It was always a crap shoot of if your orders are going to show up at your door or end up at the post office. But people are already accustomed to having to go to the post office and they don’t have to coordinate the delivery. We’re also talking about a community of 2,000 people at most.
