Ask HN: Tools to Find Market Opportunity?

When starting a company, how do you find market opportunities? Are there tools that can help with this research? Anything that can show me which niches have demand but no offer in the market? Any tool that shows pain points with existing solutions on the market?

I'm thinking about starting a company and I want to identify gaps in the market or existing pain points, but I cannot find anything beyond doing user interviews and searching on Reddit, which is very slow and is mostly anecdata.

Do you know of any way to approach this better? If not, what else do you do to get the data?

No tools. This is one skill you need to learn to do manually and the old fashioned way.

I recommend the book "The Mom Test"-- it goes into great detail about what you are talking about

Go on Indiehackers, look at new/popular projects, create a minor twist if you feel like it, then create a competing offering and market the crap out of it.
