Ask HN: Why is mobile web lagging behind?

In today's world, with mobile devices getting ever more powerful, why hasn't mobile web been able to out compete native app experience? If mobile web becomes sufficient, then a lot of good things happen automatically- 1) No need of app stores 2) No monopolies of any big tech company 3) No digital payment commissions 4) Lots of free storage on your phone

On desktop, web experience is at par with native apps, so why not on mobile?

It’s harder to track and monetize people visiting your site through a free browser. Go direct to consumer and sell them an app, or take their data and sell it to the highest bidder.
