A guy who dedicated decades of his life to write FOSS shouldn't be dependent on social security checks to buy food. Isn't there an NGO in the USA that could help out?

They're getting a huge amount of money from social security and are writing blog posts asking for money saying they will be homeless. Smells like scam or huge entitlement.
Should you run into personal trouble in your elderly years and ask for help after allowing people to use the output of your work at not charge for decades, let's hope that you are not going to face such prejudice.
Thank you. They write in the post about the thousands of dollars they receive monthly. A huge amount for people in most of the world, money to comfortably retire on. They can choose to not pay excessive rents. They can solve this problem easily without begging for money.
As for making FOSS software, that is their own fault. There is no more ungrateful public than FOSS users, which mainly consist of hackers and hobbyist who would rather die than donate to FOSS creators, and billion dollar companies, who would rather die than donate to FOSS creators.
I take back the words about scam in my previous comment. These are people who need education in personal finance, not donations.
