Coming from the pre-framework web I do everything by hand and shockingly my site kicks the competition to death in terms of speed and SEO performance. People forgot about web standards and embrace these frameworks instead. And that made sense when internet explorer was still relatively widely used. We needed code compilers because many browsers could still only handle es5 and nto es6. Now all current browsers support all the modern stuff including modules. We can go back to scripting with js.
