This makes me worried that you will only see news that is paid for in ChatGPT now.
Might also be a dangerous business move: if people like people writing, deploying AI may affect a readership pool, but, on the other hand, people who like people may turn toward smaller quality outlets, and maybe even pay for those. "AI for the poor ignorant masses."
It seems like the opposite situation is currently the case. People are getting news (or asking questions about the news) through the chatbot because it doesn't have a paywall, whereas every other news site does.
For those who don't know, Axel Springer is best known for Bild-Zeitung, an unethical, sensationalist, infamous, and stupid newspaper.

I'm not sure if that is a bad match for the new leadership of "Open"AI.

A publishing house owning a newspaper famous for not sticking to the facts.

Software not knowing what are facts.

Sounds like a good match, what could possibly go wrong...

Just to bring an example: when a woman was dragged by a rope on her neck by her boyfriend behind his car, a Bild journalist was convincing a family member to take pictures from the hospital were she was.

Axel Springer is sick and a disgrace to humanity.

Shitty people doing shitty work

also Business Insider and the *Insider publications
And the absolutely horrible piece of crapware infesting all European Samsung phones called "Upday"

This trash isn't actually confined to the company's home country Germany, sadly.

Indeed a very weird choice for a company with an ethical image like OpenAI.

Ps why the downvotes? It bakes celebrity bullshit gossip in the launcher, just swipe right. And it's chock full of spyware trackers. It's one of the first things I remove when I decrap a new phone.

From the desk of Axel CEO Dopfner, who sounds every bit like an out of touch media tycoon that leverages his position to help his preferred party :

> Mathias Döpfner, the CEO and co-owner of Axel Springer used the word "Ossis" — a derogatory term for residents of eastern Germany — and labeled them as either communists or fascists. Döpfner said his remarks were triggered by his anger at the large share of voters in eastern Germany who back the post-communist Left Party or the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). In the runup to the 2021 federal election, he suggested that Germany's largest circulation newspaper Bild should help boost the poll ratings of the neoliberal Free Democratic Party (FDP), Die Zeit reported.

So all these loyal OpenAI employees have no problem doing business with a company that brought us the Leistungsschutzrecht, a law that tries to force search engines to pay for links newspaper online content but has no problem to to copy private fotos from FB & Co. or blackmail relatives to get them?

A company whose best-known newspaper regularly agitates against the unemployed and refugees.

I suspected it, they are hypocrites and now they have sunk even lower.

What's next, a co-operation with Rupert Murdoch?

for those unaware, axel springer papers are mostly crypto-fascists sensationalists with ties to actual fascists in their editorial team and beyond. this is not just a shit business move it is a political statement.

his papers get routinely reprimanded for doing unethical "journalism". its highly profit oriented and ignores all ethical boundries. to insert this into a programm that cannot know truth from lie, is dangerous and should be a sign what this company wants (power and profit over an actual good product)
