I've been skeptical that this practice would have long-lasting benefits, but a 2020 study[0] measured outcomes 12 months after the final MDMA-assisted therapy session and saw strong results. Nearly half the participants ceased lifelong suicidal ideation for the full year following treatment.
Honestly the FDA should fast track approval of it if it's got a >50% chance of cessation of lifelong suicidal ideation for more than 24 hours. It's pretty much impossible for me to convey, to anyone without it, how exhausting it is to have part of your brain actively and intrusively contemplating (and advocating for) suicidal action since kindergarten.
