Ask HN: Good Engineering/Tech Publications?

Hi HN,

What are everyone's favourite engineering/tech publications (eng/tech in general, all fields).

Is there something similar to what 'The Economist' is to business/finance/economics for eng/tech? What I mean by that is a publication that focuses on the larger picture and trends in the fields.

IEEE has some publications[1], with varying topics and quality. Otherwise, speaking for myself, I found random internet browsing, especially in OSS circles, the most effective.
