Needs to have a gamma aware option to dither correctly. Calculate distance to the nearest grayscale step in linear space. (Steps still being evenly spaced in sRGB gamma space.)
(Fwiw, the examples on dithering on Wikipedia were still incorrectly dithered last time I checked.)
