Show HN: Real-Time Transcription and Translation (livetranslate.net)

Here's something I have been using to break the language barrier. Last week, my Russian-speaking parents were visiting, and they wanted to communicate with my Portuguese-speaking girlfriend - they found my app helpful enough that they started asking me to turn it on. The app also allowed us to watch films together.

Unlike many other apps that already exist (e.g., Google Translate), this one does transcription and translation in real-time, without having to wait for the speaker to pause or click the "translate" button.

Unfortunately, the services I am using for transcribing (Deepgram) and translating (DeepL) are quite expensive - so you'll have to input your own API tokens for this to work. However, once you set the tokens, you can pass the URL around to less tech-savvy people so that they can enjoy the web app. The reason I settled for these expensive services because I only get reasonable enough results with these.

Due to technicalities, it works best on Desktop Chrome, which uses the latest audio format for the microphone stream. The app is deployed in AWS London; I might deploy it to the USA too. Enjoy!
