I had, of course, heard ofAbū ʾAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sīnā, or Avicenna for friends, but I had never read what he contributed to philosophy.

Now that you mention it, I should re-read up on ʾAbū l-Walīd Muḥammad bin ʾAḥmad bin Rušd (aka Averroes)...
I believe further work on this path includes the Gods of Spinoza and Einstein, which are unfortunately not only heretical according to both Rome and those who excommunicated Spinoza, but even have a named heresy (however it escapes me at the moment...).
