This website claims crying can relieve stress for a week and helps you cry by playing a rotation of the most tear-inducing videos known to science.
Does it count when I open my wallet right after I got paid and see it empty and I cry me a river?
In 1981, a study titled “Tear Expert” conducted by Dr William Frey at the University of Minnesota claimed that crying releases endorphins, subsequently promoting feelings of happiness and wellbeing

So does eating hot peppers. Maybe you just need a jalapeno.

Or maybe not.

Is there a difference in body reactions (releasing endorphins) between tears as a result of inner emotions Vs tears as a result of external irritants.

ie. Is it the tears that release endorphins or do both have a common cause (emotions -> tears + endorphins) whereas sand, pepper, or onions in the eye are just irritating?

Scientists divide the liquid product of crying into three distinct categories: reflex tears, continuous tears, and emotional tears. The first two categories perform the important function of removing debris such as smoke and dust from our eyes, and lubricating our eyes to help protect them from infection. Their content is 98% water.

Emotional tears are what provide the most health benefits. Emotional tears contain stress hormones and other toxins, so it can reduce the levels of these chemicals in the body. It also releases oxytocin and endogenous opioids, also known as endorphins. Which can have a relaxing effect and make you feel better.
