Ask HN: How are you preparing for the effects of AI, from a career perspective?

I went on this YouTube rabbit hole, on AI. Watching (then reading) about the things that people have already built using OpenAI and other tools. I learned that there are YouTube channels with hundreds of videos making tens of thousands of dollars a month, nearly completely done with tools like Invideo AI. I saw a newsletter that is fully written by ChatGPT (they mention it) and has tons of subscribers.

It looks like a lot of people are going to feel the pain - starting with all kinds of content producers.

From here on, these tools are only going to get exponentially better, and fast.

My question is - what can we do to still earn a living, with dignity (other than learning these tools)?

I am fairly convinced that intangible elements like charisma and “appearing well on video” will become increasingly important. In other words, influencers will become even more of a phenomenon as faking text content becomes easier.

It will be a long, long time until AI tools can imitate a human being live-streaming, so I think the best thing to do is: get comfortable being on camera and talking in person.

Just find a real job. Carpentry is nice for example.
