You can't, that's the whole problem. If you want the beginning of the domain, it will automatically include the uri scheme. So you cannot copy foo.com, you will always paste http://foo.com. 95% I want foo.com.
They're removing the favicon from the address bar. They're not "killing" them altogether. They will still be on the browser tabs. This is similar to what Chrome already does.
The favicon is still visible in the tab bar, having it in the address bar is a security risk.
I'd much rather have no icon there - it's mystery meat to the novice user and unnoticeable to the expert. It should be a large green slab during HTTPS sessions like Chrome.
Linkbait because of the title (not that I flagged). They're hardly being killed off, they're just visible in one less place (and for a really, really good reason, too).
The parent is saying it's linkbait because the title suggests that Firefox is eliminating favicons altogether (reaction: "Whaaat?! Why?! mash upvote button") when in reality they're just removing them from one particular place, which brings them in line with everyone else (reaction: "Oh, that makes sense continue scrolling")

[ 2.3 ms ] story [ 88.2 ms ] threadEdit: Looking again, I see they are not showing the scheme for non-secure sites. So the annoyance continues.
An example:
It displays as www.google.com.
If you select those characters, copy, and paste
you see http://www.google.com
