Ask HN: Cheap bulk SMS API (to send texts like Partiful)?

We're building a social app that will include events. I love how Partiful uses SMS for notifications, on top of phone number login.

Would anyone here recommend a service that could handle bulk SMS messaging by API? Would need to be cheap if we're going to use it as frequently as Partiful would.
