I definitely respect good sales people. I’ve also had “good” sales people who sold my product by exaggerating (or lying about) its capabilities, and then it’s on the product team to retroactively deliver.
I've had a salesperson who was transformative in getting our first 50 sales. They overpromised & lied which led to a tonne of issues but they got the company off the ground which was therefore worth it. When we were ready to ratchet to a less scrappy sales process we let them go but I'm thankful for them nonetheless.
