tl;dr don’t use an architecture from the on-premise era where storage and compute are coupled together.
Design software to embrace services rather than eschew them? Who would do that? ;)

I enjoy this article (it id a commercial plug, fair warning) for the depth and clarity - most log systems are just plain inefficient and that drives the companies selling them into crazy pricing shenanigans.

These folks build a modern system with modern benefits, it seems.
