Ask HN: Isn't a spec for parseable man pages and –help output long overdue?

This isn't a criticism of man pages / roff / etc -- they've done and continue to do a great job.

However, it would be fantastic to have a widely accepted standard for parseable man pages and CLI --help output.

I understand that getting adoption for public specs is hard, and that existing man pages and --help are rather well established, but humanity has to do this at some point! What initiatives are there / have there been?
