Ask HN: Office Mac users – Is this all just bloatware?

I'm performing a basic install of Office on a new MacBook, and noticed the applications themselves are 1.6gb, meanwhile unspecified supporting files total a whopping 8.3gb.

Is there any way to reduce this footprint, and does anyone know what it might consist of?
