Ask HN: Is HN Fronted by Cloudflare?

I just noticed after having connectivity problems through my VPN that the certificate for new.ycombinator.com is a Cloudflare certificate. For some reason I didn't think that was the case a couple months ago. Are they/have they always being fronted by Cloudflare?

Saw the usual "host is down" message from cloudflare just before HN came back after the outage.

Hacker News gets fronted by Cloudflare when there was/is unusual bot activity, high load or a DDoS. This happens from time to time, but after the activity goes back to normal, they usually remove the Cloudflare fronting.

As chippy said this time, they may have been DDoSed.
