Hi HN community, I'm Nik, Anhphu and Ansh

We built a proactive AI mentor that records your memory via iOS app or hardware and gives you feedback

Remembering real-life conversations and gaining insights from them is challenging. Whether it's for personal growth or effective communication, losing track of important details can be frustrating and counterproductive.

We built this app because we saw lots of wearable hardware but always wondered why you can’t use your phone to record memories and try this experience on the hardware you already have (your phone) without buying anything

Sama AI is an iOS app that listens to your conversations, offers feedback, and helps you retrieve specific details later. It's designed with a focus on privacy, ensuring only textual summaries are stored to respect user consent.

The main difference from other solutions is that it’s already a working product you can already try it on your phone before buying any hardware.

We plan to make money by offering subscriptions for additional features later. We also offer hardware “AI Pin” for $99 which is 7x cheaper than existing alternatives

We're here for your thoughts, experiences, and feedback. How can Sama AI better serve your needs? What features would you like to see? Thank you for any insights you can provide!

I like the proactive insights approach, a big problem with the Ai products i see in development is they all require the user to take action.
I like the idea of combining an AI advisor that could provide an invaluable service. Just pre-ordered the AI Pin. What makes Sama AI different from other AI-powered wearables?
Thank you for pre-ordering, but as I mentioned in the post, the main difference is that it's just 7x cheaper than alternatives and already live (i.e. you can try it, versus other products you can't try yet cuz they are not released)
This would be an excellent tool for sales people who sell in person. The ability to feed that data back into a sales trainer similar to Gong would be very useful.

Is it possible to adjust the "mode" of feedback?

Example: Let's say I'm negotiating with people all day over car deals. Can I select "masterful negotiator coach" as the AI to analyze the conversation and provide contextual feedback over the actual conversation?

Then later on I can switch the coach over to something else, let's say it was an accountability conversation with an employee. I'd switch it over to the "Jack Welch Emobiment coach" to hear how Jack Welch would have responded to this, etc

Something like that would be great because I could integrate that directly into my current software product as it relates to sales.

Plenty of CRMs would probably want integrations - excellent symbiotic relationship there.

This is actually a very very smart idea. We will discuss this with the team -- thank you so much adiakritos!
this is a great idea This is how we would solve it

1) We probably wouldn't add "modes" but we will add different "coaches" with different styles => for example if you need sales/pitching, you'll select "Tony Robbins", if you need a business person, you select Elon Musk

2) We will be able to solve your problem with "request'" So if you say "Hey Sama" and then, tell "Sama" to become "masterful negotiator coach" until the end of the day => it will become one

That's awesome, yes.

Here's a great use-case.

A car salesman. THey're on their feet all day, many times just waiting around the dealership for people to walk in.

They go through the motions of their approach.

Let's say they need some feedback mid-sales presentation, they could "Go talk to the manager", and then ask the AI, "Please give me feedback on this situation".

Boom, the AI would tell them, "Pauly is a vain son-of-a-biatch. Play up the aspects of the car that makes him look cool. Show him aspects of the car that will play to his sense of status. Here's an example. XYZ. Also, stop disagreeing with him. Practice just agreeing with everything he says. He says the sky is green and the earth is flat. Agree - something like, 'not a lot of people are open minded like that...', then transition to where you need to go."

See when it comes to sales coaching, this is THE BIGGEST bottleneck to a sales person's performance. There is only 1 sales manager, and they have to decide who to shadow and spend time with. Sometimes they do it evenly. Sometimes they favor the best, sometimes the worse, sometimes the middle of the pack. Sometimes not at all and they sit behind their CRM and play with charts. Sometimes they carry a quota themselves so there's no time.

Here's another use-case:

Sames sales person as above, they didn't close the deal. Now they're back at their desk thinking about how they could have done it better. Or they have "head trash" and they're beating themselves up. Or their blaming the customer for being a cheap-skate, or whatever they're doing. Normally what's not happening is they're getting constructive feedback immediately following the session while the entire situation is fresh in their mind.

If you can solve this the feedback process to improve sales performance would go from, say from never at worse to 99+% post-call.

A smart sales person who wants to become a "master sales person" (Many sales people who choose the trade use that exact language) and who want to earn $500k/year.. they'd find a way to use this kind of tool.

The biggest obstacle I can see with this is the legality of recording people. But if it doesn't "record" but listen because it's an AI - I wonder if you can get around that. Because it would essentially be the same as having the sales manager do a ride-along with you, except that it's an AI rather than a human who listens and offers feedback.

Damn these are amazing use-cases that we didn't even think of! Thank you so much for posting this

Will study thoroughly and implement it

Can it tell apart different voices in a convo? Will it remember those voices later? I.e. if I spoke with my colleague last week and we have a follow up convo a few days later, can I ask Sama and it would understand context from both convos + understand they are related?
Hey! yes, this is on our roadmap for the next week! We plan to use Whisper and will calibrate with your voice like Siri does it.

We believe it's one of the most important features

we also want to make sure that everything Is privacy preserved and we don't record conversations other than the user's

Can it integrate with other productivity apps?
Not yet. Which apps would you like to see?
I haven’t used the app yet, so I’m not exactly sure how it works. But I imagine it might be useful (It seems it’s always useful) to be able for it to export to structured plain text files so that it can be integrated in a note taking app like Obsidian.
Looks great, guys. I'm interested in enabling SAMA during consulting calls only, for cross-pollination, which would make an Outlook (calendar) integration super valuable.

What about legal issues with recording others?
We are adding a feature where you can select to only record your voice - other voices will be ignored

How: you'll calibrate your voice when opening an app

Is this using RAG to collect memories and have the LLM query through it? How does data privacy work in this case?
We don't yet use RAG and collect memories time-based. Hoping to implement RAG soon For data privacy, we are adding 2 options to store your data: locally and on the server
How is this different from the humane ai pin?
