I'd love to talk to some of you privately, but you have no way for me to contact you. Many more lurkers can relate. If you feel like you'd enjoy a conversation with a stranger, you should probably add something.

Absolutely agree. I've only had positive interactions since adding my personal email to my profile years ago.

People on here have no trouble finding me on LinkedIn even though my LinkedIn account is under a different name.

Agreed, I've had great interactions with folks from HN. If people have a website/blog, I recommend including a link in the bio. It's a great way to discover new stuff and for others to discover yours.

What makes you think that those who'd want that kind of interaction, haven't already done so?

Or is it rather that you want direct access to high-value individuals and experts?

Personally, I can see many more downsides to having scrapable contact info:

- crypto-peddling

- soliciting for jobs and investments

- social engineering attacks

- de-platforming for "politically incorrect" statements made 5 years ago
