I dont know about tech companies but I can assure you that all professional fields require a certain level of academic qualifications.
Lets consider my area of knowledge. Psychotherapy.
Here is the UK there are indeed so called "fast track" courses which offer certification as counsellors and a stepping stone to higher levels of qualifications but are basically worth very little on there own.
There is a level 3 counselling diploma offered at Sandwell college in Birmingham for the cost of £1,500.
This is not a diploma it is a certificate. Very manipulative advertising. A level 3 certificate is the equivalent to an A level.
Reading the small print it clearly says "This qualification does not qualify learners to practise as a counsellor." and "Learners must already have achieved a Level 2 qualification or similar".
Also imagine if you could read the complete works of Sigmund Freud in three months, without also learning German to fully understand it.
To practice as a counsellor, not a psychotherapist, you have to complete an absolute minimum of a one year level 2 skills course, a one year level 3 studies course and a further two year advanced level 4 diploma course. A full four years of study and practice.
It is also a requirement that you must be in personal therapy for a minimum of 40 hours each year during the final two years of the diploma at your own cost and complete a minimum of 450 contact hours with your training provider/tutor. Here in the UK a level 4 diploma is the eqivalent to an academic degree.
Unless you have met all those requirements and been accepted as a member of a recognised professional body like the BACP or UKCP you will not be able to practice as a counsellor. All employers require this membership.
Coding bootcamps may well be valuable once you have qualified in the tech field of your choosing and as a means to further your continued professional development but not as a means to becoming a recognised professional in that field.
For me, bootcamps and fast tracking are an unnecessary waste of good money.
Is it not possible to cheat or side-step the fundamentals on your way through academia with bootcamps and fast tracking.
