Is there data to support this? Is there data that says in-office workers are attached to their jobs, exhibit passion and creativity? Or is it all just vibes?
Is anyone else just going numb to the constant expulsion of garbage from CEOs? I mean, when was "attachment" seriously considered in the last 20 years as a value by any western megacorp?
> Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, L’Oréal’s boss Nicolas Hieronimus said that “working from home is actually very bad” for the “mental health” workers.
Speaking in the Hacker News comments, hammyhavoc said that "working for L'Oreal is actually very for bad for your mental health".
People need to stop generalizing this point. It highly depends on the job. There is also something to be said about how corporations want so much more than just your role, they want mental, physical and emotional investment, almost to the point that it feels like a cult. I get team building activities and such, but companies love to build their "culture" and "identity" (in quotes because they are artificial forms of it because you get paid and cannot really go against it, so it has that artificial feeling to it).
yeah. and soon anyone that asks for "remote work" will be called a far-right extremist, anti-vaxxer and probably even a n*zi for refusing to go to work.
week after week we get bullshit articles from fortune or bloomberg about how people that go to work are more productive, yadda, yadda, yadda.
for people that have creative jobs and that benefit from interactions with others, sure, it's true.
but most people in companies are tasked with a job where they work alone on it, concentrated on what they're doing, and the less noise, interruptions, the higher the productivity.
and staying at home you avoid all the hours spent going to, and back, from work. people are less stressed, less tired, and this also makes them work better.
all those articles. all those moronic and stupid CEOs talk about remote work from their ass. they are barely competent at their current job, they don't know what they're talking about.
what they say about remote work is as stupid as what they say about open spaces.
the best workers will get to the companies that offer them the best work conditions. keep that "get back to work or else" shit and all the best workers will leave.
years later, those best workers will destroy your companies, because they work for the companies that will grab your sales and market.
It would be laughable, if not for threatening. A pile of articles about the big bad remote worker.
I've been remote for a company where my direct manager lives more than a thousand miles from me. I love the product we build. I'm "friends" with my boss and co-workers. I'm passionate about the company and product, and very proud of what I do, and who we serve.
Now.. at the same time, I find it super funny that a CEO who would "lay you off." with an email wants people to be passionate about the company. Any company that has to issue a HumanRights policy needs to stop telling others how to be passionate, and committed to the company.
