It'd be cool if all this metaphorical sodomy of consumers lead to hacked firmwares. Or funny, if someone ransomwares the whole company.

Is he saying they don't want to even try to have security by design here?

If ink cartridges are an attack vector for malware, may I suggest not reading software from ink cartridges?
