Appen manually tag and categorize data for ML, and have played a role in preparing data for products like Bard, and maintaining search result quality whenever manual work has been required.

Last year (for the first time ever I think), the contractors working through Appen got a pay rise. Now they're gone.

Given how important this work is for Google I wonder if they're brining it in house? It seems strange they would outsource something like manual search quality ranking.
