Nice write up. I am a lead designer at a FAANG and have a coworker who is struggling to get promoted to senior. They focus almost entirely on driving business value but they struggle to prove the work and product decisions are because of them. They also struggle to make time to have a POV on their area of focus and to build documents (decks) around it, and solicit said documents. I am trying to coach them down this "marketing themselves" path. But in all honesty, the budgets for promos right now is abysmal, so it's going to be even harder to stand out and get a promotion.
Thank you. I can imagine, the current layoff's situation doesn't help. In addition, I know the FAANGs have a strict committee step that could make promotions even harder.
