There are infinite examples of wrongthink and ignorance on the internet. Why does this particular one merit a story?

I don’t believe it does, and this is propaganda.

It's because X's governance has become so poor that this fake organization was able to get a gold checkmark, which lends it the appearance of credibility on the site. That's the story that the article focuses on.
Because this particular example of wrongthink was given a literal gold badge of approval from Twitter.

Because that badge of approval caused this wrongthink to be seen by a great many people.

Because Twitter has been caught red handed lying about its moderation policies to defraud advertisers and this is a blatant example of that fraud.

Because Twitter's owner has himself espoused neo-Nazi wrongthink by praising Hitler, claiming Jews are conspiring to destroy white America, and saying he has no sympathy for Jews who face antisemitism.

Take your pick.

This ‘official organization’ sounds pretty bad, but at least they don’t auto play unrelated videos when I try to read an article on their website that takes up half the screen on mobile.
