Hetzner changes prices based on IP

I noticed when I'm at home the price of a Cloud CCX43 is €114.82. But if I remote into my work machine. Which is in the same town. The price is €96.49. It can't be going by location because it literally the same town in South Jersey, USA. So they must have some database with IP and user profile.

I'm curious what other people are seeing from their home vs work.

Tax related.

On https://www.hetzner.com/cloud/ it says €96.49. At the very bottom of the page, the last three words are "Prices excl. VAT"

When logged in, on the console.hetzner.cloud when I select CCX43 I see €114.23 and below it says "All prices incl. 19 % VAT"

€96.49 * 1.19 = 114.8231

Weird, I'm not logged in at home. I don't even have an account. But it gives me the €114.23 price
At the top of the page there is a VAT selector. If you pick US there you see prices without VAT no matter where you are.
Some places do A/B testing with prices too, but they have to do it in a way that the prices won't change every time. Try using a VPN to get cheaper prices?

Also some will price based around the user agent - coming in on an Apple device might cost more.

Assuming they take the address from your account, and not an IP-based location.

Hey there, I asked about this phenomenon. Your office may be using "incognito" mode or something similar to hide its IP/browser, and when this happens the requests are then automatically set to "all others" (OT) for the tax setting on the site, and that setting has 0% VAT. --Katie
