Sundar Pichai is a resilient CEO, but his time to go will eventually come - especially with the stock down 6% as it is today. It has been said in the past that the big problem is that nobody can replace him as Google CEO...

Who should be the next YC CEO?
Geoff Ralston was doing fine? Bring him back?
How about someone that restores the "Don't be evil" motto?
Shareholders care about money, not mottos.

That Google we once knew is gone.

Urs Hölzle, hoping that he will accept the proposal this time (I've read somewhere that he refused and they went with Sundar, sad).
He recently quit being a SVP to go back to being an IC, I'm not sure he wants even more management responsibility.
The CEO of a corporation with a board like Google has very little leeway on what it can do.

Those companies first need to get into a huge crisis before the board and shareholders think about new changes.

People that haven't been into management typically have a very naive idea about how much power managers have. It isn't that much, you need to parrot a lot of stuff you don't like just because others want to listen it, or the board and shareholders think it is important.

A CEO isn't just a manager though, at director level and above you get to have a say about what gets worked on and what doesn't in a way you don't if you're lower-level management.
