I do agree on #1, it’s what limits this device the most. Being able to bring your Mac into the AVP helps some but that experience isn’t great.
As for #2, this wasn’t an impulse purchase. I had planned to buy it before it was even announced at WWDC and I saved the money leading up to it going on sale. I had 6+ months of making sure I wanted to buy it preceded by almost a year of knowing I’d want to try whatever Apple did in this space.
#3 has been almost completely a non-issue for me. I have only seen the low power notification twice. Once when I thought I was plugged into a bigger changer (it was like a 10-20w charger) and once when I was cooking and had been unplugged for about an hour prior to starting cooking because I just forgot to plug it in while I was sitting down.
Isn’t the lack of foss just a matter of time and popularity of the platform? If it takes off, there is nothing stopping developers from making foss for the AVP, as far as I know. Popular open source apps exist on iPhone and iPad.
My RSS reader of choice is NetNewsWire, which is foss. The developer posted about why it’s not on the AVP[1], not even the iPad version. It basically came down to him not being able to test the actual hardware, since he isn’t going to drop $3,500 on it. If it becomes popular, and future versions are cheaper, this could change… just as it did for iPhone and iPad.
FOSS doesn’t require side loading. The dev has to pay $99/year to be in the App Store. As long as they are willing to eat that relatively minor cost, and their app isn’t doing anything untoward, there is nothing stopping them.

for me, point 1 just kills it. the simple reason i would never buy it.
also having a proprietary battery connector & 1 monitor limit is a very typical apple move.
i see it as just another (if albeit cool) vehicle for selling apps and streaming subscriptions. neither of which i'm interested in.
