Ask HN: How has your experience been with preliminary video auditions?

It's an extremely scarce market, at least in Canada and maybe the U.S at the moment, and during the last year of looking for work I've seen an increased proliferation of companies demanding some sort of 5-10 min video recording. Have you done one, and has it paid off? Are you responsible for vetting/asking for this at your company?

There's also been at least one case of having applied directly to a company who's then given my email to a third-party automated technical testing company with no prior call or communication, who's then asked I give them access to my camera during the 1 hour automated screen for the purpose of taking period screenshots, not that I went through with it.
