That's 10 years ago. Tech is strongly influenced by hype. 20 years ago there would have been an XML variant.

Sturgeon's Law, "90% of everything is crap", applies to RFCs too.

I was actually wondering, "how could they have shot themselves in the foot standards-wise by ignoring an XML version, if a JSON version would be first-class?
