Ask HN: Base Google Gemini Is as Good as OpenAI's GPT4?

I've been playing around with GPT4 and Gemini and I realize I've been defaulting to the free Gemini more than I have GPT4. I'm not sure if its because of speed or because of code quality. I've only tested them for a few simple projects.

Has anyone else found themselves choosing one over the other? What kinds of projects/processes are you using them for? What advantages or disadvantages have you noticed using one over the other?
