would be nice if they open sourced some of the code!
My work uses smartsheet and its widely popular. Wonder why spreadsheet.com couldn't compete.
Almost anybody using Smartsheet isn’t paying for the spreadsheet functionality. Otherwise they would just use the cloud version of Excel. Smartsheets value add is all of the eventing, reporting, and product management tools that are baked right into the spreadsheet. It’s like a crappier (but vastly cheaper) version of salesforce, qualtrix, asana, and tableau all in one beautiful data model.

I say this as a former employee.

We use Smartsheet for the project planning feature. I even wrote a utility to take a Smartsheet excel export and generate a more polished Gantt chart for presentation.

VC strikes again!

It's no longer about building a sustainable company, it's about building a fast-growing promise of market dominance.
It’s never been about building a sustainable company with VC
>VC

Funny how that is quickly becoming backronymned to Vampire Capitalism.

decomissioning like this makes businesses focus more on traditional and big partners, as migration is expensive. More and more I realize, how many problems discontinued projects can cause. sustainability of the projects might be an advantage.
What will happen to the codebase and amazing product they have built?
I guess a good dotcom isn't everything. Or maybe $category.com isn't a good dotcom, at least when $category has established competitors.
It’s sad that so many tech companies are pressured to grow or die. It feels rare to see folks build stable, healthy growth businesses these days. Gotta burn through all the cash and get that next round of funding!
