Spammers be spammin. Buy Akismet and never see spam again!

It's always been there afaik (turn on showdead in your profile) but @dang (and crew?) are pretty good about nipping it afaik.

I agree. They posted similar spam from another account that seams to be baned, and now they created a new account. It looks like all commets are killed now.

Just flag the comments, enough flags kills the comments. If there are too many spam comments, or they are too anoying, or something, you can send an email to the mods hn@ycombinator.com (include a link to coment or user, to make dang's work easier)

An API that you send comments and it tells you if it is spam or not (free for personal use and low traffic commercial sites IIRC). It is the spam-catching-backend for WordPress sites and many other forums -- like discourse, I think -- (so they have a really, really good idea of what spam looks like across billions of sites).
