So this about aerosolized aspirin as a treatment for influenza and other viruses, as far as I understand.

Seems the first research dates back to 2007 on ASA for respiratory virus treatment in general: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17324159/

I found an interesting article in German about why development of that treatment has been discontinued, but nothing in English unfortunately, except for a patent:
