I doubt it will succeed for cars, the pressure needed to achieve the range is to big, and there is no infrastructure and not enough green hydrogen.
That's probably a pretty disingenuous way of framing it.

They have already spent money on the technology, they think there's a future for it, they want early adopters to help test.

Subsidies and tax credits helped electric cars get off the ground.
