Jesus christ this is atrocious. I'm transgender and this is just the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

Yes we need some form of accomodation and it's nice if the system works _for_ us instead of against, but this is not it.

Perhaps it is for the better. The law forces Spanish society to think hard about subjects of equality and fairness between men and women, in addition to trans people.

One of the people in the article changed their gender in order to increase the odds of gaining custody over their child. Others get an immediate 15% salary increase now that they are officially female.

Its not 'one' person or a few. There are a lot of men who are doing it in Spain right now. For years, the courts have been heavily favoring the mothers and in most cases stripping most rights from the fathers. Now the fathers found this loophole and a lot of them are using it.
Wonder if it's a tactic recommended by their divorce / family lawyers these days?
Yes, it actually is. Its not only recommended by lawyers, family, relatives and friends also recommend it to each other.
These women are brave and just trying to live their authentic lives and you are calling it atrocious?
With respect, as a transgender person are you saying these soldiers are not "real" transgender people?
Yes.
Well that's a double standard if ever I saw one.
Well when you have an ideology which states that males are women when they declare some unprovable inner 'female gender identity' to the world, then this is the consequence of introducing that ideological belief into law.
This is a three-way intersection of fundamentally irreconcilable societal developments:

- Europe is in a war and needs to conscript capable, young but unwilling fighters. Unwilling because who wants to risk their lives for cents on the dollar?

- Gender identity is up to each person to decide - there is no "male" and "female", attempts to relate personality traits to biological reality are not okay.

- Women need targeted support / subsidies to combat fundamental inequality - Women deserve special protections.

One person did that. It's not like there is a trend.

Just to add context to the headline.
