A slight aside: Something that blew my mind was the scams on YouTube showing mirrors of the official SpaceX stream with an AI generated Elon Musk voice overlaid right before the launch asking the viewers to donate Bitcoin!

AI scamming is now mainstream, front and centre on historic moments roughly on par with a Space Shuttle launch or a Moon landing.

Humanity is heading to the stars once more, making machine minds, and what the general public actually gets out of these miracles of technology is a cryptocurrency scam.

there really is no excuse for google not shutting these down very very quickly.
They did. I flagged one as a scam and got a confirmation email from YouTube stating that the video was deleted within tens of minutes.

Also, I noticed that about an hour before the launch, all live streams were hidden from keyword searches. I could not get a search hit that was fresher than about 12 hours despite trying for about 5-10 minutes. The only reason I could watch the launch live at all was because I already had the NASA Space Flight live stream in my "history". New searches, or even manual browsing on their channel, was turning up a blank.

The inescapable real-world problem is that all of these scams were live streams mirroring another live stream that Elon Musk refused to make available on the official SpaceX channel.

So if you searched for any variation of "Starship Launch", you'd see zero official videos and a bunch of unofficial ones like NASA Space Flight. How can YouTube automatically tell if some of these are scams or not?

They elected to simply put the ban-hammer down and blanket block all live streams related to the launch from search results.

How sad is this for the human race?

Imagine if CBS News or NBC or whatever couldn't show the moon landing live because NASA refused to deal with "legacy media" and all available video feeds were from Russian pirates intercepting satellite feeds and injecting scams of some sort.

This is where we're at right now. Elon Musk owning X/Twitter means that he refuses to do business with YouTube (or any other streaming service), which means that millions of space fans are getting scammed instead.

What an obscene disservice to the hard working and brilliant engineers at SpaceX.
