Ask HN: Have You Quit WhatsApp?

With the last forced update, where you start seeing facebook-like tabs creeping up right into the UX "Community!" "Updates!" , "AI!" i am more tempted than ever to quit WA.

Most of my loved ones are already on signal , but most organized sports and school activities are managed via whatsapp.

I'd love to learn from what others are doing

I only use WhatsApp to communicate with my friend in a foreign country. Besides that, I use Messenger only because my friend groups are on there. I use Slack for work. Honestly I wish my friends would switch to Signal and I’d remove Messenger.

Meetups for me are usually done through Discord.

I tried it and failed. I managed to convince most of the people I care about to install Signal, but not all. Also, where I live it's used for many day to day things like bookings.

What I have ended up doing is bridging WhatsApp to Matrix, and I only interact with the WhatsApp network through my Matrix client (schildi chat).

I'd love to properly leave WhatsApp, as I think giving a for profit company the monopoly of all our non-in-person communications, which is what has happened in my country, can only bring bad things to society. But for now, it stays mission impossible.

I hope the DMA can at least give me the ability to interact with businesses from outside WhatsApp

Im trying hard. I play sports (and my kids too) and activities are managed via WhatsApp.

I also had some professional clients add me u whatsapp groups. I actually would LOVE to get rid of those. I cant stand clients asking questions via WhatsApp. Its like task management on slack.

On one side I'd like to funnel my work tasks away from WA , on another, I need to access sports groups on WA.
