Choose an external excuse:

1.) Corporations need to take responsibility and pay up for all the emissions they have generated.

2.) The government needs to allot more money towards building green energy sources.

3.) People in the developing world must stop using fossil fuels.

4.) Oil companies need to cover the cost of fixing the climate.

5.) The city needs to build better public transit.

. . .

Choose an internal excuse:

1.) My family safety depends on us having an SUV.

2.) We deserve a large home, we worked hard to get here.

3.) We cannot switch to a heat pump, gas is just so much more cost effective.

4.) Meat is central to our diets, and an excellent source of protein, who doesn't love beef?

5.) We don't have the time or money to forgo fast-shipping globalized consumer products.

. . .

Realize that we are going to slam into this problem full speed, face first.

Love it. How about adding something about shareholder value, the economy in general and of course wars.

Otherwise known as - people will follow incentives. Trying to change behaviour by moralizing while keeping incentives in place that reward people who dont do the thing you want, is a fool's errand.
I'm surprised that I'm still just complacent about the whole thing, instead of going full-prepper. I suppose a bunker full of food, etc, will also only extend my life a few months, unless I have Zuck-level money..
There is no way a bunker will get Zuck through civilisation collapse.
But...but..BUT!!

It's self-contained, underground, and in Hawaii!!!!

That would be just more food for the raiders.
here is one extreme excuse.

"they do not let go what we rightfully owned."

now, help think critically what we have rightfully owned and lost it.
