Ask HN: Why do VPNs take up so much battery life on iOS?

Because they have to do a lot of stuff in userspace

not knowing where it is (or being confused about it), the os keeps trying to confirm its location, wasting battery

If it’s a VPN where it embeds the web browser that would explain it. Safari is consistently 20-30% battery usage even without a VPN.
